The Death of the Legacy LMS: Why Blify Just Raised $2.1M to Kill the Standalone Learning App

The traditional Corporate Learning Management System (LMS) is facing an existential crisis. For years, HR leaders have struggled with “ghost town” platforms where engagement only happens under the threat of a compliance deadline. Today, a new breed of Work Tech is emerging to meet employees where they actually spend their time.

In a recent WorkTech podcast, I sat down with Clément Lhommeau, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Blify, to discuss their recent €1.8 million ($2.08 million USD) Pre-Seed round. Blify isn’t just another learning tool; it’s an AI-powered “learning operating system” that embeds training directly into the flow of work via Slack, Microsoft Teams, and WhatsApp.

The Fundraise: Fueling the “Flow of Work” Revolution

The €1.8M round marks a significant milestone for the Paris-based startup. The investment highlights a major trend we’ve been tracking at WorkTech: the massive influx of capital into the French HR tech ecosystem, driven in part by significant government investment in the tech sector. Blify represents a wave of founders with considerable experience operating in the global HR Tech ecosystem.

Blify’s founding team of “operators” is core to the firm’s ability to raise early-stage capital:

Min Tu Hua (CTO): An AI powerhouse previously at health-tech unicorn Alan.

Clément Lhommeau (Co-CEO): Former CMO of 360 Learning and author of a book on MOOCs.

Tristan Vié (Co-CEO): A decade-long veteran of JobTeaser who scaled sales from 10 to 100 people.

Macro Trend: From “Publishing” to “Individualization”

During our conversation, Clément pointed out a fundamental flaw in legacy systems: they follow a “publishing model”. Companies build static, linear libraries and hope people show up. The data is damning; non-mandatory courses often see monthly engagement rates as low as 10%.

Blify is hoping to exploit this opportunity by focusing on two key differentiators:

  1. Presence where work happens: Microsoft data shows employees check Teams every 5 minutes. By putting learning there, Blify reports a 50% weekly engagement rate.
  2. Hyper-Contextual AI: Instead of generic content, Blify uses AI to layer company, group, and individual context to craft “pieces of learning” specific to a user’s daily challenges.
Beyond Leadership: A Universal Enablement Tool

While Blify launched with a focus on management and leadership, the platform is rapidly expanding across the enterprise. From sales enablement and frontline training to the critical need for “AI training,” teaching employees how to actually integrate AI into their specific processes, the goal is to move past the separate, siloed app.

As I noted in the interview, what was once “aspirational” in HR tech, true just-in-time, individualized learning, is now possible because of the foundational shift AI has brought to the market.
