Automattic, the company behind WordPress is known for two thing: WordPress and their unique “everyone works remote” policy. Now they’re jumping into the HR Tech market with “Happy Tools” workforce products. Tools targeting a distributed workforce, starting with scheduling, at $5 per user per month.
Two things jump out at me immediately – their reach and existing distribution in the SMB and their open platform. This could be an interesting play for Automattic. The key being their focus on the space, given the nuances and complexity of HR tech. Will this be just another plugin for WordPress? Or, will this be an affordable and scalable product for the SMB?
